We are looking at implementing a wide area network. Would like to know what
the best options are for configuring Exchange 2003
Option 1
Thinking of having Exchange at HQ with approx 60 Users
2nd site has approx 30 users with another Exchange server
Additonal remotes all average max 10 users
Have 4mb leased line to Internet link at HQ and 2Mb leased line to Internet
at 2nd site with site connectors between the 2 sites and email flowing
between the 2 using IPSEC VPN links. The additional sites would be IPSEC VPN
tunnels over internet also via ADSL links Max 8Mb download 256k up.
The Internet email feed would be direct to HQ and then clients connect using
standard MAPI Outlook connection to their local exchange servers. Remotes can
use VPN client.
Option 2
Have no Exchange server at site but host at an ISP. Then using the same size
links as above run Outlook from sites RPC over HTTP through the IPSEC VPN
tunnel connected down to the ISP site for Outlook being hosted at ISP. This
will give the option of having more redundancy being hosted at ISP site.
Has anyone done a similiar configuration and what would the performance be
like for using a site of 60 users across VPN link using RPC over HTTP for the
Exchange link?
