local access to websites

Setup is Windows Server 2008.

Our developer has set up two different internal sharepoint websites with
different hostheaders connecting to the same IP address on the server.

I have added the A records to the DNS and we can resolve to the websites on
user PC's with no problems.

The problem is, that when we try to access the websites locally on the
server, we get the normal "Internet explorer cannot display the website"
error.

I have added the following to the host file:

127.0.0.1    localhost
127.0.0.1    localhost    demobox
127.0.0.1    localhost    sharepoint

The "sharepoint" website will now connect on the local server, but the
"demobox" website asks for a log in, shows the login box three times and then
just displays a blank page?

Any ideas.
