|Subject:||Rename SQL 2000 Virtual servers on Windows 2003 cluster|
|Date:||7 Aug 2006|
I built a two server Windows 2003 cluster and installed two named
instances (SQL1 and SQL2) of SQL 2000 on virtual servers VSVR1 and
VSVR2. I then renamed VSVR1 and VSVR2 to SQL1A and SQL2A respectively
using the Cluster admin to change the Network Names.
I've read that you can't rename SQL 2000 virtual servers and that you
must uninstall/reinstall to do this, but what I did above worked. I'm
currently installing SQL SP4 to the renamed virtual servers and it's
I am now able to reference both SQL1 and SQL2 instances as SQL1A\SQL1
and SQL2A\SQL2 within Enterprise Manager and Query Analyzer.
What did I do right? Or is this not suppose to have worked?
