I used to have just one Domain controller in a domain with the SYSVOL and
NTDS in same drive with the system directory. In other words to the c drive.

Then we promoted another memeber server to a domain controller with the
SYSVOL and NTDS in a different drive i.e. F drive. Replication across the two
DC is fine but I noticed that when I shut down the first domain controller
most user could not log on. They got an error saying that the DC is not
available to enable them authenticate. I have applied the following
workaround:

1. I have made the new DC a catalog server as well and yet people cant log.
2. I have transfer most of the FSMO roles to the new DC except for
Infrastruture role.

Please can someone help me as i need to carry out maintenance task on the
first DC.
Your help will be much appreciated
